How Much Does Mold Remediation Cost On Long Island

Mold Inspection Long Island, NY

HOW MUCH DOES MOLD REMEDIATION COST? This is a very common question i get before i even lay eyes on the affected areas. Then, because of the NY State Mold Law Article 32 i have to ask the customer if they see more than 10 square feet of mold growing in their Long Island home? If they do i must suggest they contact a NY State Licensed Mold Assessor to come and prepare a mold remediation plan which they will then give back to me or the mold remediation contractor of their choice.

A proper mold remediation plan should include a ball park figure as to what the remediation should cost. After all, this is a consumer protection law and the purpose of the plan is to inform the customer of what needs to be done, how long it should take and what it should cost so that this way when the customer is asking for estimates they have something to work off of. If they feel that the prices they are getting are not in conjunction with what the plan states then they go back to the assessor for any questions or concerns.

THE ASSESSOR does add additional cost to what can be a pricey mold remediation and some customers, even though created for them do not want to pay for a mold assessor and will ask the mold remediation contractor if this part can be skipped. An honest and smart mold remediation contractor will typically not take on a job that has more than 10 square feet of visible mold growth  without a mold remediation plan in place. They are comfortable knowing that when they are completed with the mold remediation it is being checked by a third party to confirm it was done correctly and that any questionable molds have either been reduced or removed from the air and at that point a clearance letter can be provided to the customer. This provides peace of mind and i feel that this is something worth paying extra for when it comes to mold in your home. Every single job is different and therefore cannot be priced out over the phone.

THERE ARE MANY FACTORS TO CONSIDER. How large is the area, how will it need to be contained, how much equipment will be required and many other concerns that a good mold remediation contractor will want to take into consideration before providing a price to a customer. Mold remediation isn’t demo and anyone thinking this should reconsider their thoughts as it is far more than demolition.

Yes there may be some building material that may require removal but it is the tedious process of setting up the proper containment to prevent cross contamination in your home. It is how the detailed cleanup will be performed to capture all the fugitive mold spores that go into the air during the removal of the building materials.

Final Cleanups consist of HEPA vacuuming with a hand held brush attachment and then following with damp wiping. On un-finsihed surfaces this could take many man hours. If customers are not familiar with the process then they could be shocked when they receive estimates for mold remediation.

It is the job of a good licensed mold remediation contractor to explain in detail every step of the process so that they understand and see what they are paying for. Mold remediation is by no means an affordable service, however that does not mean it can’t be fairly priced. Even a small remediation project can range anywhere from $600-$1000 and go up from there. It is best to contact a licensed mold assessor prior and then after receiving their mold remediation plan get 2 or 3 estimates from a reputable mold remediation contractor. It may be helpful to the customer to read the NY State Department of Labor Mold Fact sheets and these fact sheets provide helpful information to  the customer and may answer some questions you have prior to calling in a professional for a price.
